AUSTIN (KXAN) – Austin voters chose three City Council members on Tuesday.  The victorious candidates each won their races by double-digit margins.

The closest race was for the District 8 seat in southwest Austin.  Paige Ellis earned 56 percent of the vote to win over Frank Ward. Nearly 11-thousand voters cast ballots in the race, which was the highest total for any of the Council runoffs.

In District 3, incumbent Pio Renteria held off a challenge from his sister, Susana Almanza. Renteria took 64 percent of the vote to keep the southeast Austin seat.

Natasha Harper-Madison took a commanding victory in the District 1 runoff.  She finished the night with 72 percent of the vote to defeat Mariana Salazar.

The new council members will take office in January.

Austin voters also chose a new School Board Trustee. Arati Singh defeated Carmen Tilton for the At-Large Position 9 on the board.
