ALBANY, Ore. – 23 first responders early Thursday rescued a 47-year-old Albany woman clinging to a sign hanging 50-60 feet under the Bryant Way Bridge over the Calapooia River, “We harnessed one of our firefighters and lowered that firefighter to the individual. That firefighter then had to harness her, precariously perched on that sign…then firefighters and police officers from above were able to pull them up.”

Sandy Roberts from the Albany Fire Department says it’s not clear yet how the woman ended up in the situation in the first place, “Fortunately, we were able to safely extract her and have no injuries to our personnel, as well as her.”

She believes a fall from the sign would have been deadly due to the rocky and low river, “We’re just really happy the conclusion was successful.”
