One Bismarck man’s work in soil health has earned him a spot on the front of a commemorative Wheaties cereal box.

Gabe Brown, a regenerative agriculture farmer, recently received the special box from the General Mills Sustainability Team for his work as a regenerative agricultural advocate and educator.

Regenerative agriculture is a method of farming that works to increase biodiversity, enrich the soil, improve watersheds and enhance the ecosystem. The focus is on restoring soil health.

His farming operation, Brown’s Ranch, located just east of Bismarck, covers 5,000 acres of owned and leased land.

He wrote a book about his pioneering work, “Dirt To Soil,” outlining how he transformed his operation from industrial to regenerative agriculture.

General Mills isn’t planning at this point to put the commemorative cover into mass production or distribution.

“Even as a novelty item, seeing your picture on the cover of an iconic cereal box is a humbling experience and the gesture was very much appreciated,” Brown says. “Truthfully, I think every farmer making the transition from industrial to regenerative agriculture is a champion.”

Brown is also associated with the Soil Health Academy, a series of hands-on training programs held across the country to help spread the u8nderstanding and use of regenerative agriculture practices.
