Police identify victim of deadly crash in south Springfield Thursday; now hit-and-run crash

Police identified a man killed in a crash at a busy south Springfield intersection Thursday evening.

Matthew T. Brown, 43, died in the crash at Republic Road and South Campbell. The crash involved three vehicles.

Investigators say a gray Kia SUV, traveling northbound, struck the passenger side of Brown's Mitsubishi, traveling southbound. Officers received information the southbound vehicle was struck by another vehicle which caused it to lose control, cross the center of the road and collide with the northbound vehicle. Police believe the third car was a stolen Budget Rental box truck. The driver left the scene. Police need your assistance to locate this driver. Police later found the truck at the intersection of Olive and Broadway.

This is the ninth fatality motor vehicle crash in Springfield during 2019.
