Springfield family gets a surprise visit by possible bounty hunters

Dustin Burris has been residing in northwest Springfield for the past five years with his family. But, this past weekend at around 5 p.m., he got an unexpected visit that he never saw coming.

"We came home from a family event and seen a nice shiny truck sitting there on our road and thought it was kinda strange," said Burris.

Burris says he pulled into his driveway with his family.

"Before we got out of the truck, the nice shiny truck came in front of our driveway and four people in uniform got out," said Burris.

Burris says the men were wearing bulletproof vests and carrying weapons. He says they looked like law enforcement officers.

"They told me that they had a tip there was armed fugitives possibly hiding in our residence, so I opened the door and told them to go look," said Burris.

Little did Burris know, those same men had already kicked his door down. His neighbor witnessed it.

"We heard a loud banging six or seven times and then a guy started screaming," said Coy Hamilton.

Hamilton is Burris' neighbor. Hamilton says they busted the door before they asked or even said they had a warrant. Hamilton says he was shown a picture by the men, but did not recognize anyone in the photo.

"I said I really think you have the wrong place," said Hamilton.

Hamilton says the men then lied to Burris about who kicked down his door.

"Before I realized that the neighbors had gotten home I heard them out here talking and they had already contacted them. They told the neighbors they were here because somebody had already broken into their house and they were investigating that, which was a bold face lie," said Hamilton.

Burris filed a police report with the Springfield Police Department. The police say they are investigating as they were not told anyone had a warrant to search Burris's home.

One of the men left a number with Hamilton. KY3 did reach out to this number. The man on the other end of the phone acted as if he had no idea what was going on and hung up.
