Police in Springfield are investigating a Wednesday morning shooting that left one man with critical injuries.

Officers responded around 2 a.m. to a duplex in the 1500 block of West Lombard Street. That is near Kansas Expressway and Grand Street.

Police say the shooter remains on the run. Lt. Mark Schindler believes the victim knew who shot him. But he says the motive remains unknown.

Neighbors say they are shocked by the crime. They say the victim is their friend and a really good guy. They are praying he makes it.

"I'm always up and down the street and I talk to him all the time," said neighbor Tammy Ray. "He's a real good guy. I bought, I think $200 worth of stuff from him last year, and he was a funny guy and he teases me all the way. And I tease him about his bench over there, and I say I'm taking that bench. He goes uh uh."

Other neighbors say he kept to his own business

"It's just shocking, the idea, because he goes to work, comes home," said

Sara Adkins and James Banes. "You know him and his female friend they go home, go to work, come home and that's all you see if them. He stays off to himself."

Police have not yet released the victim's name, and they are still looking for suspect. They have spoken with some witnesses, but if you know anything about the shooting, call Springfield police.

If anyone knows who was involved in this incident, they are asked to call the Springfield Police Department immediately. Lt. Schindler said the criminal investigation unit has been called to the scene and will take over the investigation.
