Four students suffered minor injuries after a school bus hit a deer in Springfield Friday.

It happened just before 7:30 a.m. at Division and LeCompte. The bus was headed to Hickory Hills Elementary.

Investigators say a pickup first hit the deer. The deer then struck the school bus. The students injured complained of neck pain from the crash. Emergency crews took those students to the hospital out of precaution.

"We're also communicating to messaging from EMS to parents just out of an abundance of caution, to let them know some different things to watch for in case students are sore in the next few days, that type of thing," said Stephen Hall of Springfield Public Schools. "But we are very grateful that the injuries were not more significant and that everyone will be okay, and we're just there to support our kids however we can."

Hall says they are proud of their bus driver for handling the incident in a professional manner. The bus will now need repairs.
