LANCASTER — An autopsy will be performed on a 50-year-old man from Lancaster who was found near a creek by the Sixth Avenue bridge on Tuesday.

Shawn C. Peterson's body was discovered by a passerby who called city police at 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Peterson resided a half mile, or about an 11 minute walk, from where he was found on the east bank of Fetters Run, behind the 600 block of Sheridan Avenue.

PeteThe following day, there still had been no activity on his bank account and he hadn't reported to work, according to the missing person report.

Fairfield County Coroner Dr. Brian Varney said an autopsy will be performed but he along with police detectives said there is nothing currently suspicious about his death. It will take between 12 to 16 weeks before the testing results return to determine his exact cause of death, Varney said.

Investigators notified Peterson's family shortly after the discovery.
