Man in custody after allegedly shooting neighbor in the head

Staff report

LANCASTER — A 24-year-old man is in custody on an attempted murder charge after allegedly shooting a man in the head at Lancaster Club Apartments along Sells Road Saturday night, according to police.

Lancaster Police Chief Adam Pillar said Randy E. Cook Jr., who lives at the complex, was taken into custody shortly after the shooting. There were two victims involved, but Pillar said only one person was shot. The victims' identities have not been released, but they were both taken to area hospitals for treatment.

Officers arrived at the complex, 180 Sells Road, around 5 p.m. where they found Cook, who had run to a nearby apartment. He was arrested without further incident.

Pillar said there was a firearm found at the scene.

Another neighbor, Devin McDonald, who lives at the complex, told the Eagle-Gazette he had come outside just after the shooting and started video recording what he saw. He said there was a woman on the ground hyperventilating.

"There was a woman holding her trying to keep her calm," McDonald said, adding that he had heard she had been pistol whipped.

The police department is not commenting on the shooting victim's medical condition.

The investigation is ongoing.
