A man has been arrested after a five-hour stand-off with police while holding a pitchfork.

Emergency services were called to the incident on a residential Preston street shortly after 8am this morning (May 22).

More than a dozen police vehicles and an ambulance were spotted in the area.

Pictures shared on social media also show officers wearing riot gear.

A 54-year-old man from Preston has now been arrested on suspicion of affray.

He remains in custody for questioning.

Armed officers and a police negotiator were called to Dovedale Avenue in Ingol shortly after 8am this morning (May 22) following reports a man was seen walking on the street with a sword.

Lancashire Constabulary blocked off the area and discovered a man at an address armed with a pitchfork and knife.

More than a dozen police vehicles and an ambulance were spotted in the area.

Police are now in negotiations with the man and a cordon has been set up due to concerns for his welfare.
