Downtown Lansing Inc. aims to ‘Lift Up’ local businesses

Posted

MONDAY, Aug. 10 — During the COVID-19 crisis, many small businesses and local artists have suffered great losses. Downtown Lansing Inc. — a nonprofit organization that promotes culture and sustainability in the city — wants to use the power of social media to help support the restaurants, shops and art that make this city unique.

It's putting on weeklong celebrations of local businesses called Grub Shop Love that will last from Aug. 17 to Aug. 23, then Sept. 14-20 and Oct. 12-18. To get involved, you have to love Lansing — and you have to be able to prove it.

Sending in a video or e-mail proclaiming your personal reasons for loving Lansing could earn you a gift card good for any purchases made in downtown Lansing, Old Town and REO Town. If you love the city, then the city gives back.

“We are seeking enthusiastic and engaged residents,” said Ashlee Willis, CEO of Michigan Premier Events, a co-sponsor of the event.

If you are chosen to be a Downtown Lansing ambassador, you must promote the city and stay involved in local affairs. All applicants selected must sign an ambassador agreement.

“All Lift Up Local ambassadors should have a solid social media presence, be willing to post images via their own social media pages to highlight their involvement in Lansing’s art, entrepreneurial, non-profit, recreational and retail scene,” said Downtown Lansing in a press release.

To get involved, send a short video or email to elizabeth@downtownlansing.org and tell them why you love Lansing.
