LANSING — Lansing Mayor Andy Schor has declared a snow emergency for Lansing as heavy snow and bitter cold temperatures are expected in the city.

All non-essential commercial, private and public travel on city roads is prohibited during a state of emergency.

“People need to stay off of the streets so that we can clear them properly. City employees are working hard to keep roads safe," Schor said. "We will do our best to keep main roads clear as the snow continues to fall, and will get to our side streets as soon as possible.”

All on-street parking is prohibited to ensure safety and efficiency during snow clearing operations. Community-wide critical communications plans have been implanted.

All city events and meetings have been canceled, and many government buildings are closed around Lansing. Dozens of schools around the area are closed.

The Capital Area Transportation Authority will be on call for any emergency and evacuation needs that come up due to severe weather.
