Correction: This story has been updated to reflect that the Ingham County Health Department operates 12 clinics and is adding a 13th at East Lansing High School.

Correction: The Michigan State University Community Music School is east of Hagadorn Road. Captions for photos in an earlier version of this story incorrectly identified the school.

More:Michigan denies claims from some Black crime victims at disproportionate rate

Corrections: The U.S. Department of Justice allocated $1,815,000 for compensation to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services for its crime victim compensation program in 2021. A total of $4.94 million was paid out to 564 claimants and for 2,346 sexual assault forensic examsAnd, the Safer Michigan Act goes into effect on Aug. 12. This information was incorrect in an earlier version of this story. Additionally, the MDHHS was not given an opportunity, prior to the publication, to respond to data that shows the department denied compensation claims to Black applicants at a higher rate than white applicants when behavioral issues were factored in. A statement from MDHHS addressing that finding has been added to this story.

A resource for Black and brown businesses returns Feb. 28

Correction: The above story was updated to reflect that Mayhoe's husband started WiseMan Tree Experts before her involvement, that Ayles did not refer them clients until after they were established, and that they hope to use their small business grant to purchase a new building. A photo caption also misidentified the year they received that grant, which was 2021. The details of their partnership with Houston Legacy of Enlightenment were also clarified.

Lansing School District votes to keep mask mandate after county order lifted

Correction: Lansing School District provides N95 and KN95 masks to staff but not students. An earlier version of the article above was incorrect.

Lansing tried electric buses in 1973. It didn't go well.

Correction: The Capital Area Transportation Authority's name was corrected in the story above.

Comparing COVID-19 cases at schools with and without mask mandates

Correction: Potterville Public Schools does not have a mask mandate. An earlier version of the article above was incorrect.

CORRECTION:Tanya Jachimiak remains employed at Michigan State University. An earlier version of the story said she had departed. An earlier version of the article above was incorrect.

Correction:  An earlier version of the story above misstated when North Star Birthing Services was started. Brace and Burton formed the business in October 2020.

West Junior High School site gets city tax incentive to become senior housing

MSU reports 178 COVID-19 cases as it rolls out new dashboard

GM stowing hundreds of SUVs at old Lansing Township plant

Correction: An earlier version of the story linked above incorrectly stated ownership of the Lansing Township property. It is owned by the RACER Trust.

Haslett man charged with assaulting D.C. officer in connection with Jan. 6 attack at U.S. Capitol

Clarification: The article linked above has been updated to say that Logan Barnhart has not worked at Barnhart & Sons since 2017, according to his father. An earlier version of this story did not provide a time frame.

Correction: The article above has been updated to reflect that Laws-Barker and Nordé joined the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority after they were in college. A previous version of the story was incorrect.

Okemos summer camp to resume Thursday after 24-case COVID-19 outbreak

Correction: The first day of school in Okemos is Aug. 24. An earlier version of the article linked above was incorrect.

What to know about Lansing's new universal pre-K program

Correction: The list of districts where children will be considered for an enrollment exception has been updated in the story above.  

MSU construction projects resume after COVID-19 pause

Correction: The article linked above has been corrected to state that a Munn Ice Arena expansion will not include new concession stands. That information was incorrect in a previous version of this story. 

Lansing School District announces free universal pre-K this fall

Correction: This story was updated to correct the amount of new funding Lansing School District could receive in Michigan's school aid budget. A previous version overstated the total.

Who's operating, opening in Allen Place's incubator kitchen

Correction: Rebecca Sylvester is the sole owner of Dot's Catering and is fulfilling orders out of a commercial space before she moves into the incubator kitchen. A previous version of the story linked above was incorrect.

Lansing Police Chief Daryl Green steps down after two years

Correction: An earlier version of the story above had an incorrect spelling of the last name of former Lansing Police Chief Mike Yankowski. The article also mixed up the title of his new position with the name of the office where he works. Yankowski took a post as assistant director of institutional ethics and compliance at Michigan State University's Office of Audit Risk and Compliance.

Six Easter eggs in East Lansing's new 'greetings from' mural

Correction: An earlier version of the article linked above incorrectly stated Heather Majano's title. She is East Lansing's art festival and arts initiative coordinator.

Judge reinstates charges in Michigan State Police breathalyzer fraud case

Correction: An earlier version of the story linked above misspelled the name of Judge David Jordon.

Online betting launched in January. Then, calls to Michigan's gambling helpline spiked

Correction: Calls to Michigan's gambling helpline nearly doubled between February 2020 to February 2021. A previous version of the story linked above overstated the increase due to inaccurate information provided by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

Correction: The original Oriental Mart opened in the early 1980s. An earlier version of the story linked above gave an incorrect opening date.

CORRECTION: East Lansing Meijer is not offering walk-in COVID-19 vaccinations

Correction: The story linked above has been corrected to state that Meijer's Lake Lansing Road store in East Lansing is not offering walk up COVID-19 vaccines to people without appointments. An earlier version of the story was incorrect.

Despite risk of COVID-19, some fear people with disabilities are ignored in coronavirus response

Correction: The story linked above has been corrected to say that Dessa Cosma is a wheelchair user and a little person. An earlier version of the story was incorrect. 

Poor People's Campaign plans Monday car caravan from MLK Boulevard to City Hall

Corrections and clarifications: The story linked above has been corrected to state that the city's Economic Development and Planning Office did not approve the Poor People's Campaign for a summer housing project. An earlier version incorrectly said the project had gone before City Council. The article has been clarified to say that the National Poor People's Campaign representatives will appear virtually. And it has been updated to include a statement from Lansing Board of Water & Light about its shutoff policies.

ICUs at Sparrow, McLaren Greater Lansing see dip in patients, but can adapt if needed

Clarification: The article linked above is updated to reflect that Greater Lansing's two major hospitals had fewer than 80% of their combined available intensive care beds occupied on Monday. An earlier version of this article used numbers for total bed use, not ICU beds. Updated numbers appear in the article.

Surge in violence prompts community meeting of Lansing police, public officials

ClarificationThe article linked above is updated to reflect that Lansing police revised their homicide totals for 2017 and 2018 after reporting them to the FBI for its Uniform Crime Report.

Correction: The article above was updated to correct the home state and political title of the late U.S. Rep. John Lewis, D-GA.

Why do we still celebrate Labor Day?

Correction: In the article linked above, Dean Poggiali's affiliation was incorrect in an earlier version. He serves on the Capital Area UAW CAP Council. 

$500,000 program for entrepreneurs from underserved communities launched

Correction: The article linked above has been updated to reflect that there are few entrepreneurship programs like One & All, which was created for mid-Michigan by Lansing Economic Area Partnership to target underrepresented entrepreneurs including women and people of color. Also, data from Gazelle.ai shows 40% of businesses are owned by women. The data was incorrect in an earlier version of the article.

Police identify Lansing woman killed in shooting, arrest suspects

Correction: The is article above has been updated to reflect that the 37-year-old victim's name is Tameka Jackson. Lansing police released a different last name for her on Saturday.

Clinton County voters to decide on millage proposal to fund new 911 radio system

CORRECTION: The article above has been updated to state that the average cost per household for 911 service would increase to $126 per year. An early version incorrectly called that a monthly average.

Wharton Center shop staff to be reorganized after controversial Black History display

CORRECTION: This article above has been updated to correct an editing error. Former Michigan State University President Clifton Wharton is 93; an earlier version of the story incorrectly stated that he had passed away. The story also has been clarified after a university spokesman confirmed the reorganization will include gift shop staff only.

Michigan State University planning innovation park for 140 acres on campus

Clarification: This article linked above has been updated to include additional information from Michigan State University about the potential uses of the innovation park and to clarify that bonds sold to fund the Larry Nassar settlement will be paid off with interest from investments, not from endowment interest.

Local leaders defend Jackson Johnson's character after city places her on leave

Correction: The article linked above has been updated to state Joan Jackson Johnson is still covered by her 2019 contract with the city. A city official said earlier that Johnson had a 2020 contract, but confirmed on Jan. 15 that is not the case.

UAW leader: Suppliers to GM lay off some workers on first day of strike

CORRECTION: The story linked above has been corrected to remove the company RSDC from a list of GM suppliers that laid off workers on Monday. The president of a UAW local that represents those workers said Thursday that they have not been laid off.

Questions? Here's what we know about UAW strike in Lansing

CORRECTION: The story linked above was updated to correct the year that the UAW last called a nationwide strike against GM, which was corrected by the source. This will be the first nationwide GM strike since a two-day walkout in 2007.

CORRECTION: Fall semester classes begin at Michigan State University on Wednesday. The article linked above has been updated because an earlier version was incorrect.

Autism insurance is covered by law. So why are some vulnerable children left behind?

CORRECTION: The story linked above was updated to remove a sentence about Medicaid coverage provided to children with serious emotional disturbance in the six months before they transition out of institutional foster care. Autism spectrum disorder does not qualify as an emotional disturbance and to add the full title of Mary Chaliman, Michigan Child Welfare Medical Unit manager.

Opening doors when you use a walker, wheelchair or crutches shouldn't be this hard
