LANSING — Prosecutors have filed murder charges against a man who police say killed a 17-year-old boy in Ferris Park in early August.

Malcom Williams, 23, was charged Monday with murder, attempted murder and two felony weapons charges in connection to an Aug. 5 shooting that left 17-year-old Taijion Gant dead and two other teens injured.

Two groups of people with a "prior ongoing dispute" got into an argument that turned physical at Ferris Park, Lansing Police Public Information Director Robert Merritt said. The fight turned to gunfire, leaving three with gunshot wounds.

Two teens, ages 16 and 19, were shot during the fight, Merritt said. Both survived the shooting. Gant died from his injuries.

One of the injured victims was taken to the hospital from Ferris Park, and the other was found on Illinois Street with a minor gunshot wound.

Denzel Duane Gibbons

Denzel Gibbons, 19, is also facing charges in connection to the shooting. He's charged with attempted murder and six felony weapons charges.

Gibbons is accused of shooting the 16-year-old.

Williams is set to appear in Lansing's 54A District Court Aug. 29 for a probable cause conference. He turned himself in to the Lansing Police Department and was arraigned Tuesday. He is being held on $200,000 bail.

Gibbons has a probable cause conference Aug. 23.

The shooting took place at about 7:15 p.m. Aug. 5 at Ferris Park, which is in the area of North Pine and West Genesee streets.
