Lansing – Biotech companies Neogen Corp., Niowave Inc. and Emergent BioSolutions will hold a joint job fair next week in Lansing.

Thursday, Aug. 22, 2019, at Niowave in Lansing.

The event will be held Jan. 30 between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Neighborhood Empowerment Center located at 600 W. Maple Street.

All three companies have similar needs so they decided to pool resources, Julie Vartoogian, human resources specialist for Niowave, told the State Journal.

"We work well for these companies," Vartoogian said.

“As the three biotechnology companies with major operations in Lansing, all facing the same challenges with filling open positions in the current job market, it just made sense that we got together to host a joint job fair," Julie Mann, Neogen’s senior director of corporate human resources, said in release.

The event is the first of its kind for the three biotech firms.

"On-the-spot interviews will be held for immediate job openings at the three companies," said the release from Negoen. "Openings at the companies range from entry-level positions, through research and supervisory positions. These positions include openings in manufacturing, facilities, accounting and human resources, as well as in each of the companies’ biotechnology specialties."

Vartoogian could not say exactly how many people Niowave would be hiring, but noted that all of the positions would be full time.

"Emergent has identified approximately 20 job openings for the Lansing site at varying levels and roles in Manufacturing, Quality, Facilities & Engineering, Regulatory Affairs, and Supply Chain. Salaries will depend on the level of the role, but all positions are competitively compensated," Emergent BioSolutions manager of talent acquisition Helene Hendrickson told the State Journal in an emailed statement.

Neogen did not respond Tuesday to a request for comment.

Both Neogen, a food safety company, and Niowave, a medical radio isotopes company, are Lansing-based while Emergent BioSolutions is headquartered in Maryland, although it was founded in Lansing.

Emergent BioSolutions currently manufactures its Anthrax vaccine at its Lansing facility.
