LANSING — A Lansing man has been charged in connection with a shooting that left one man dead and another critically injured Monday on the city's south side.

He was arrested Monday evening not far from where Steven Lee Jackson, 31, was killed and a 32-year-old Lansing man was critically injured, LPD Public Information Director Robert Merritt said in a news release.

Jackson was a former Lansing man living in Atlanta, Georgia, police said. He is the city's sixth homicide victim of 2020.

The shooting happened in the parking lot of a strip mall in the 3400 block of Pleasant Grove Road, at Holmes Road, about 6:35 p.m. Monday.

Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene. The other shooting victim was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Merritt said an officer spotted a man appearing to match the suspect's description "not far" from the site of the shooting and arrested him without incident, Merritt said.

No attorney was listed for Diederichs in court records. His next hearing is set for Aug. 14.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Mike Looney at 517-483-6869.
