1 arrested, charged in connection with Lansing shooting; victim in critical condition

A 31-year-old Lansing man was arrested and charged with assault with intent to murder after a shooting left another man in critical condition Monday morning, the Lansing Police Department said.

Kivon Cimon Brown was arrested Monday and charged Tuesday by the Ingham County Prosecutor's Office with the assault and a felony firearm offense.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred around 6:30 a.m. Monday.

Lansing police were called to a residence in the 1700 block of Maplewood Avenue regarding a shooting.

A 20-year-old man was found with at the scene with a gunshot to his head, police said.

The man was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. His condition had been upgraded to stable on Tuesday, Lansing Police Public Information Director Robert Merritt said.

Lansing police received a description of the suspect, who had left the scene prior to their arrival, and began a search.

A patrol officer located the suspect near Jewell Avenue and East Holmes Road at which time he was arrested without incident.

Brown is due in 54A District Court on Aug. 20 for a probable cause conference.
