IONIA - Officials are investigating the death of an inmate who collapsed Friday morning at the Ionia County Jail.

Stuart Nelson Hill

Stewart Nelson Hill, 48, of Portland, was moved to a holding cell for observation after reporting that he felt ill, the Ionia County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

He had just received his breakfast tray when he fell to the floor.

Corrections officers rendered first aid until paramedics arrived, and Hill was taken by ambulance to Sparrow Ionia Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

Sheriff's detectives and the medical examiner's office are investigating the death.

Hill has been in the jail since March 19 on Friend of the Court warrants, sheriff's officials said.
