LANSING - A Lansing man has been charged in connection with a shooting Monday that left a young man dead and two other teens injured at a park near downtown Lansing.

Denzel Duane Gibbons

Denzel Duane Gibbons, 19, was arraigned Thursday in 54A District Court on an attempted murder charge and six weapons counts.

He is accused of shooting a 16-year-old boy following an argument and fight in Ferris Park, near the intersection of North Pine and West Genesee streets, Lansing police said in a news release.

Taijion Gant, 17, was shot and killed in the incident. The 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man also were shot but are recovering from their injuries.

A magistrate set a $100,000 cash bond for Gibbons. It was unclear if he is represented by an attorney.

Lansing police were called to the area of North Pine and West Genesee streets about 7:15 p.m. Monday and found 17-year-old Taijion Gant dead, police said.

One of the victims was taken to the hospital, and the other was found on Illinois Street with a minor gunshot wound.

The investigating remains open, and detectives are still looking into Gibbons' possible involvement in the killing of Gant, Lansing police Public Information Director Robert Merritt said in the news release.

Assault with intent to murder is a maximum life felony offense in Michigan. Gibbons also is charged with felony firearm possession, assault with a dangerous weapon and carrying a concealed weapon.
