One man killed, another wounded in downtown Lansing shooting

LANSING - Police are interviewing a man after one person was killed and another wounded early Sunday on East Michigan Avenue.

An altercation involving multiple men in the 400 block of East Michigan Avenue at 1:45 a.m. initially led to at least one shot being fired, and a 21-year-old man was wounded, Lansing Police Chief Daryl Green said.

The man who fired that shot, a 43-year-old, was subsequently shot and killed by a third man whose age was not released.

Green said detectives are speaking with that man but he has not been taken into custody.

The 21-year-old has non-life-threatening injuries and is in stable condition at a Lansing-area hospital.

Michigan Avenue between Cedar Street and Museum Drive was closed for several hours.

There is no ongoing threat to the public and police were still at the scene about 7 a.m.
