LANSING – Police were investigating a shooting incident Friday that injured a young child on the city's south side.

A six-year-old child was injured by broken glass after gunfire erupted outside of a convenience store on Jolly Road, near Pleasant Grove Road, about 5:15 p.m., Lansing police said.

Police were investigating a shooting incident Friday at a south Lansing convenience store.

The child was inside a vehicle when the shooting happened, Sgt. David Burke said. The child was taken to a hospital in a private vehicle. No other injuries were reported.

Witnesses initially reported that the shooter was a man on a blue moped, but Burke said investigators on Friday evening were still investigating that and other details about how the incident happened.

Investigators believe the shooting was not a random act, and the shooter remained at large on Friday evening, he said.
