People are flocking to Mount Charleston just in time to celebrate a white Christmas up on the mountain.
“Just to get a little bit of holiday cheer,” said Michael Close, visiting Mount Charleston. “You know, when you think of Christmas, you think of snow; kind of the mountains and just being rustic.”
“Definitely looking forward to building a snowman; a nice little memory to build a snowman on Christmas Eve,” said Stephanie Santos, visiting Mount Charleston.

“I just like to play in the snow,” said Kati Seiber visiting Mount Charleston. “I grew up with snow, so he brings me up here just to visit it.”
Many others have their sleds and are ready to go. Many were hoping there would be a little more snow.
“It’ll be like to the knees; knee-high, but the past year or two, it’s been getting lower and lower,” said Danny Dumayas, visiting Mount Charleston.
Six or more inches of snow could fall on the mountain on Christmas Day, and visitors say, looking at the ground, they wish that would have happened earlier.
“That’s amazing. Fantastic. Oh! Then we’ll have to drive back up here then,” Close said.
Officials say those making the trip up the mountain should plan ahead and be prepared. Especially, with the partial government shutdown in place.
There are also no gas stations on Mount Charleston, so fill up before you drive up. Officials say it’s also important to have snow tires and chains in case the roads get icy.
“Definitely, slippery roads and any obstructions on the roads,” said Dumayas. “I got the good tires, so I’m good. As long as there’s snow and we’re having fun, then that’s what matters.”
Keep in mind if you’re heading up on Christmas or any time this week, the Spring Mountains Visitor Gateway and area restrooms are closed due to the current partial government shutdown.
