LAS CRUCES - Greg Jackson has put his money and his time promoting the state of New Mexico.

The Albuquerque based UFC trainer was in Las Cruces this week speaking with southern New Mexico businesses for his New Mexico Experience campaign, which was launched to promote New Mexico businesses and tourism.

Jackson also attended Tuesday night's Sixth Man fundraiser for the New Mexico State men's basketball team.

"I met some people who are very involved with New Mexico State and they asked if I could come and help," Jackson said. "I want to help New Mexico State athletics but I also have to pick the next Las Cruces business for the New Mexico Experience."

Jackson said the three New Mexico businesses he selects will be featured in the lead up to the UFC Fight Night event on December 7 in Washington D.C.

Former local businesses Jackson include Organ Mountain Outfitters in Las Cruces.

"We still have a little bit of time to pick those businesses," Jackson said.

Jackson did not speak on Tuesday, but he has spoken at various University of New Mexico athletics events over the years.

"Competition is competition no matter if you play basketball, tennis or you are fighting," Jackson said. "You need a certain mentality and mindset. Sometimes it is good to hear from a different perspective to add to what they already do.

"Whatever I can do to not only motivate players and coaches and let them know that there are a lot of us fans who are excited about New Mexico State, but also try to get people to come to games."
