SHOP windows were filled with all things Welsh building up to St David’s Day celebrations in Holywell.

The town mayor, Cllr Rosetta Dolphin, walked through High Street and Tower Gardens to judge the competition where businesses were invited to decorate their shopfronts to celebrate the Welsh Saint.

She said: “It is lovely to see so many businesses take pride in their culture and spread some joy for St David’s. I enjoy seeing people’s creativity when dressing their windows and all the entries were very impressive.

“There is still time to decorate ahead of Friday and the weekend when lots will be going on to celebrate.”

The judges were looking for the best use of Welsh colours and symbols, the overall effort put into the window and how decorations were styled.

In the running for best window display was The Flower Bowl – who made use of their daffodil supply and also created a giant leek.

Hughes Parry Solicitors, who won the ‘Best-Dressed Christmas Window’ award for their festive decorations, decorated their window with bright daffodils. Salon Tineke Beauty had also strung up several Welsh flags in their window at the end of High Street.

Just off High Street, in Tower Gardens, is where the winner can be found.

Tower Crafts window is full of leeks, daffodils, flags, traditional clothing and much more.

Cllr Dolphin said the shop has put in so much effort to making the window stand out and hopes that the first-place prize will find somewhere to sit in the window.

Helen Ryles-Owen, the owner, said: “It is great to be picked for the award. I loved making the display and took so much pride in presenting my St David’s spirit.”
