Police stopped a Vauxhall Astra when they saw it appear to stall and it also had a defective light.

They found that the driver was two and a half time the drink drive limit.

To make matters worse, North East Wales Magistrates' Court at Mold was told that defendant Shane Adrian Douglas had a previous similar conviction.

At North East Wales Magistrates' Court at Mold he was banned from driving for three years.

He was placed on a 12 month community order under which he must carry out 160 hours unpaid work.

Douglas, 27, of Riverside Park in Garden City, admitted driving with 92 microgrammes of alcohol in his breath compared to the legal limit of 35, at Station Road, Queensferry on March 6.

He also admitted not having insurance and an MOT certificate and was fined £300 with £85 costs and an £85 surcharge.

District Judge Gwyn Jones said that he took into account the high reading and said the previous similar conviction was an aggravating feature.

Prosecutor Justin Espie said that just after midnight police officers saw the vehicle which appeared to stall.

It had a defective light and they decided to stop and check the vehicle.

He provided a positive road side breath test, was arrested, and blew the 92 microgrammes reading at the police station.

Victoria Evans, defending, said the self-employed painter and decorator had been out to the pub and had not driven home.

But he later received a phone call from a friend at Asda in Queensferry and was stopped by police.

The relevant previous conviction was within ten years which meant that he would have to receive a three year ban.
