GLAMORGAN will be paying very close attention to Australia's One-Day International series with Pakistan.

That's because Shaun Marsh, pencilled in as the Welsh county's overseas player for the forthcoming season, will be staking a claim for inclusion in Australia's World Cup squad.

With Steve Smith and David Warned set to return from suspension for their part in last year's ball-tampering scandal, competition for places in Justin Langer's 15-man squad for the competition in England is fierce.

Marsh, set to serve the second year of his Glamorgan contract after an injury-hit first season, was in fine form prior to the recent tour of India, hitting four centuries in 12 innings.

But after missing the first ODI of the India tour, Marsh struggled in the next three matches, scoring just 29 runs, and was dropped for the final game.

All is not lost for Marsh, however, Langer saying: "Marsh will certainly get opportunities in the five- match series."

The first ODI is on Friday, with all five matches played in the space of nine days as Langer works out his squad for the World Cup, which begins in May with Australia opening up against hosts England.

Marsh, 35, is looking to make his mark against Pakistan, saying: "It was tough, but the guys were playing some fantastic cricket and someone had to miss out- I was just happy that the team performed well.

“We have all been told to be ready for the Pakistan series, and hopefully I will get my chance there.

"The pitches in Dubai are always good, and I hope to replicate the form I showed before the Indian tour - it’s worked for me before, so I won’t change much."

Glamorgan, meanwhile, are spending a week at the La Manga Sporting complex under the supervision of director of cricket Mark Wallace, and head coach Matthew Maynard, who replaced Hugh Morris and Robert Croft during the winter.

New signing Charlie Hemphrey, a right-handed middle order batsman from Queensland arrives next week in preparation for the county’s opening fixture of the season against Cardiff MCCU at Sophia Gardens on April 5.
