A go-slow protest along the M62 on Saturday has been backed by dozens of drivers.

An event posted in the Brexit Protest and Direct Action Group UK Facebook group is calling for a 40mph protest along the M62 in both directions from Liverpool to Leeds on Saturday.

So far almost 60 people have said they will take part.

The protest drive will see motorists head westbound from Leeds to the junction 18 loop at Simister Island in Bury, and eastbound from Liverpool to the same junction.

The protest action is advertised to begin at noon on Saturday, March 23 and is one of several go-slow protests on major motorways planned by the same Facebook group this weekend.

On Friday, a go-slow is being planned by lorry drivers on the M1 southbound between Leeds and Sheffield.

An event is calling for drivers to join the M1 go-slow between J45, near Temple Newsam, and junction 34 at Meadowhall.

The post in the group says drivers will meet at Skelton Services at 6.30pm, aiming to set off at 7pm - however only two members have confirmed attendance.

The Facebook group says it wants to take a stand and force the government to deliver Brexit.

The group profile states: "We are here to take a stand and to make a difference to force the government to take the action that was requested by the 17.4 million voters we want to leave the EU NOW."

Today Prime Minister Theresa May requested a three-month delay to Brexit, postponing the UK's departure from the European Union from March 29 to June 30.

The PM made the request in a letter to European Council president Donald Tusk exactly 1,000 days after the 2016 referendum which delivered a 52-48 majority to quit the EU.
