A woman in her 20s was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car in Leeds on Thursday evening.
Police were called to the scene on Whitehall Road at the peak of rush hour, shortly before 5:30pm, after receiving reports that pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.
Officers were quickly dispatched, along with paramedics, and the busy road was cordoned off to traffic a few hundred metres up the road from the Ringways Ford garage, close to the roundabout junction with the A6110 Outer Ring Road.

Police release more detail
Police have released slightly more detail on the incident yesterday - the driver stopped at the scene, and the woman who received serious injuries is in a critical condition in hospital. You can see the full statement below:
“Police are appealing for witnesses following a road traffic collision in Leeds in which a woman was seriously injured.
At about 5.20pm yesterday (21/3) the 22-year-old pedestrian was involved in a collision with a blue Ford Kuga on the A58 Whitehall Road, between Ring Road and Branch Road.
She received serious injuries and is in a critical condition in hospital.
The car was travelling away from Leeds city centre at the time of the collision.
The driver stopped at the scene and has been spoken to by officers.
Officers would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the vehicle or the pedestrian prior to the collision. They are particularly keen to speak to anyone who was driving in the area and has any relevant dashcam footage.

A number of crime scene cones have also been placed on the road behind where the car has come to a standstill.

The main bulk of traffic has now passed, but there’s still a bit of congestion at either end of the police cordon - particularly at the roundabout on the A6110 Outer Ring Road.

The police cordon starts about 500 yards up Whitehall Road from the roundabout with the A6110 Outer Ring Road and stretches up all the way to the crossroads with Dunlop Avenue and Branch Road.
No traffic whatsoever is being let onto Whitehall Road from the Outer RIng Road. Police are turning cars away at the roundabout.
There’s a really heavy police presence - two police vans and at least four police cars - although there aren’t any ambulances still here.
Bus services diverted
Bus services in the area have been diverted away from Whitehall Road as police continue to deal with the incident.

Police were called at 17:24 (Thursday 21 March) to reports of a collision on Whitehall Road in Leeds.
Emergency services including ambulance attended.
There was a collision between a car and a pedestrian.

There are road closures currently in place.
