Two historic Leeds buildings are among the top 100 most haunted places in the UK.

The Thackray Medical Museum and Armley Mills both made the Higgypop Top 100 Most Haunted Places In The UK 2019.

Thackray Medical Museum came 52nd on the list.

The one-time workhouse at St James's Hospital was always likely to leave some with an awkward feeling or two.

There are a lot of medical artefacts on site and people say the building is haunted by a long-deceased doctor.

Higgypop says: "With so much misery and death associated with this building, it's no surprise that there are so many claims that it is haunted.

"With reports of poltergeist activity, a phantom doctor that's seen wandering around wearing a white coat, ghostly patients, and even (a) dark entity."

Armley Mills came 30th on the list.

Now it is Leeds Industrial Museum but it was once regarded as the world’s largest woolen mill. It was destroyed by fire and had to be rebuilt. Today it is a popular tourist attraction.

People have allegedly witnessed a ghostly small boy crying and a woman in a Victorian dress.

Higgypop says: "Armley Mills is said to house Victorian ghosts and poltergeist activity, as well as disembodied voice(s) and dark shadows. One of the building's resident spooks is a tall Victorian gentlemen who's been seen many times wearing a top hat and using a cane. He's said to walk the floors of the mill in the dead of night.

"In a part of the mill which is now known as the cinema room, two spirits are said to roam. One is an original ghost of Armley, whereas the other has come with the fixtures and fittings of the cinema. One of the apparitions is said to be sinister. People have reported seeing seats move all on their own.

"As the mill's workforce was made up of children as young as six...accidents and deaths amongst the machinery were common in the mill's heyday. As a result, the ghosts of children have been witnessed around the old machinery."

Higgypop ranks haunted places according to 'numbers of reports of paranormal activity, unique ghosts count and the longevity of the haunting'.

It adds: "Any location which has appeared in the news in the last 12 months has been given a multiplier, making this the most up to date list of paranormal hotspots in Great Britain."
