Pa.'s best hiking trail is a short drive from the Lehigh Valley, Outside magazine says

Best hike in Pennsylvania?

Where is the best hiking trail in Pennsylvania?

Outside magazine asked its writers and editors to suggest a list of the best hike in every state, and for Pennsylvania they came up with Tumbling Waters Trail in Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.

The 3-mile loop offers panoramic views of the Delaware River Valley, according to Outside, and “passes a delightful two-tiered waterfall surrounded by black birches.

“From the Pocono Environmental Education Center (at Dingmans Ferry), hike clockwise to explore groves of red cedar, glacier-scarred bedrock, IMAX-sized views of New Jersey’s verdant Kittatinny Ridge and wetlands filled with singing frogs.”

The National Park Service rates the trail as moderate to difficult with a 254-foot change in elevation.

So, Pennsylvania hikers, what do you think? Is Tumbling Waters Trail the best that Pennsylvania has to offer? Do you have some other recommendation in Pennsylvania? Why is your trail a better choice? Share your thoughts in the comments on this story.

In the meantime, here are some of Outside’s other recommendations for neighboring states.

Maryland – Appalachian Trail from South Mountain State Park to Annapolis Rocks, 7.5 miles.

New Jersey – Appalachian Trail and Dunnfield Creek Trail to Sunfish Pond, a glacial lake at 1,379 feet, 8 miles.
