Almost 70 jobs are under threat at a sofa retailer’s Leicestershire base.
Harveys are in talks with staff about moving its customer services team from Magna Park, Lutterworth, to its Huncoat offices in Accrington, Lancashire.
A total of 68 staff will be affected, out of a total of 398 Harveys employees at the south Leicestershire distribution park.
Harveys – which have stores in Fosse Park and Loughborough – said the shake-up was part of a strategy to improve its customer service facilities.
It comes just weeks after Lidl announced plans to close its Magna Park distribution centre potentially putting hundreds of jobs at risk.
The discount supermarket said it has outgrown its large warehouse and was relocating its operation to Peterborough more than 50 miles away.
Some 350 Lidl staff members who work at the Lutterworth complex were informed about the closure.
They have been told they will be offered work at Peterborough, or the option of being re-deployed at Lidl stores.
But for those who cannot move within the company there will be a redundancy offer.
Commenting on the Harveys plans, a spokeswoman said: “These changes will help to facilitate a more robust customer services experience to help meet customer demands.
“As a result, all customer service employees at Magna Park have been placed at risk of redundancy and will be entering in to a minimum 30 day consultation period, which will start on March 29.
“Whilst this proposal will result in a change for its customer services team in Magna Park, the new structure ensures that Harveys will be able to provide a more improved service for its customers.”
Kalwant Singh, managing director of Harveys, said: “As part of our transformation strategy for the Harveys brand, we have had to review ways in which we can deliver better customer service and better products to our customers.
“Part of this has included how we structure the customer services team so we can respond more quickly to customer calls and queries.
“The move to Huncoat will enable us to enhance our capabilities and operate at a much higher standard for our customers.
“Making these changes now will help drive our continued commercial success.”
In addition to a customer services department, Magna Park houses delivery bookings and telesales departments and is a warehouse and distribution centre for Harveys.
