After five years off our screens, Big Brother will return to TV next year. The news was confirmed during the live finale of this year's Love Island where it was announced it will air on ITV2 and ITVX from 2023.

No news on hosts for the former Channel 4 and Channel 5 reality TV juggernaut is known, but it's fair to say that the show had its fair share of memorable characters over the years. Leicestershire has not been immune to having a Big Brother contestant or two either, meaning it's the perfect time to look back and reminisce.

While we've had our fair share, not all have gone on to success, but what became of the county's former housemates? Let's find out...

Narinder Kaur - Series 2

Narinder was Leicestershire's first Big Brother contestant

Narinder was the county's first representative in the house, appearing on the second ever series of Big Brother back in 2001 where she finished in 9th position.

After being evicted from the Big Brother house, former medical rep Narinder went on the appear on the Big Brother Panto in 2004 and also released a book detailing her experiences in the house.

Speaking to LeicestershireLive, she said: "There are two ways of looking at my time in the house. I went from being unknown to almost a household name and there was just no going back to a normal life - but for me some of the press was good because I wanted to do TV I wanted to do radio."

Radio is where Narinder indeed went, landing a role on London-based Lyca Radio, but returned to the county following a family bereavement. Since, she's not stopped her media appearances, regularly making guest spots on Channel 4's Steph's Packed Lunch and The Jeremy Vine show on Channel 5.

Described on social media as a broadcaster and blogger of travel, food, fashion and beauty, Narinder has also turned her hand to matchmaking, working for Project 143 - an award-winning matchmaking agency for Asian professionals. However, her time on Big Brother is still a big part of her life, but its depiction of the Leicester lady couldn't have been further from the truth.

"People didn't realise how edited and produced it was. If I had a pound for every time someone told me how different I was to the show, I would be a multi-millionaire," she said.

Lee Davey - Series 3

A year after Narinder went inside the Big Brother house, Leicester was once again represented, this time courtesy of fitness instructor Lee Davey - a man who would play a part in Big Brother history, but necessarily for what happened in the house.

The fitness fanatic's time in the house was short-lived, finishing in 10th place, but he did bag himself the woman of his dreams after striking up a relationship with fellow housemate Sophie Pritchard. He even popped her the question while on Channel 4's RI:SE, with the pair marrying a year later. They even had a son Maxwell, but the fairytale ended just months later in divorce.

According to the Mirror, Sophie ditched the limelight following the divorce, opting to focus on raising her son. Lee meanwhile was reportedly known to be working as a stripper for Dreamboys.

Jon Tickle - Series 4

Jon went on to have a TV career after Big Brother

Originally from Norwich, Jon studied at the University of Leicester, but like many of his Leicestershire counterparts didn't fare too well in the house, finishing in 9th place. However, he did go on to have a successful TV career.

Jon's stint in the Big Brother house wasn't his first telly experience either, having already appeared as a contestant on Blockbusters back in 1991, but it was Big Brother that set him on his way. After leaving the house, Jon, who studied physics in Leicester, went on to co-present Sky's Braniac: Science Abuse alongside former Top Gear host Richard Hammond.

One of the most memorable moments from the entertainment series was Jon walking across the swimming pool filled with custard powder and water in a bid to prove he wouldn't sink. He didn't - until he stopped walking and needed the help of the crew to free him the gloopy mess.

After Braniac, Jon went on to work for British Gas as the firm's data strategy manager and latterly their enterprise information architect. He now works at Centrica as their head of the ServiceNow Platform.

Bonnie Holt - Series 7

Legal issues got in the way of Bonnie's Big Brother return

Loughborough care worker Bonnie featured in the seventh series of Big Brother in 2006 and was evicted after just nine days in the house. Aged just 20 at the time of her appearance on the Channel 4 show, Bonnie's short-lived tenure didn't prevent her from making the headlines however.

Set to re-enter the house in the Big Twist re-entry vote, Bonnie was unable to return to Big Brother over legal reasons relating to an unpaid pizza bill. Since then, little is known of what Bonnie's been up to but social media shows Bonnie is now a mother to a young boy.

Steve Gill - Series 11

Steve Gill entered the Big Brother House in 2010.

A former soldier, Steve almost died while serving on the frontline in Belfast, but it came at a cost, losing both his legs and his right eye. In comparison, a stint in the Big Brother house could only be described as sedate and despite finishing in 9th, he was the best performing Leicestershire entrant that year - by some distance.

Steve's time on Big Brother was also history making too, becoming the first double amputee to enter the Big Brother house. His 2010 stint on the reality show was just the first step on what has been a series of big feats ever since, sailing across the Atlantic and taking part in the Royal Ocean Yacht Race.

His achievements don't stop there as he took part in the 2014 Invictus Games, winning bronze in the recurve bow event. He had set his sights on competing in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, but did not get selected.

Govan Hinds - Series 11

Govan's time on Big Brother was short-lived

Govan is Leicestershire's worst performing Big Brother star, having finished 20th out of 21 entrants during the 11th series - the final series to air on Channel 4.

While his time on Big Brother was extremely short - even by 15 minutes of fame standards - Govan's time was questioned heavily. This was after it had been revealed he'd lied about being bisexual in order to get onto the show.

Nothing is known about what Govan has been up to in the 12 years since he entered - and very quickly left - the Big Brother house.

Dr Sunshine - Series 11

Sunshine has gone on to write for a number of publications

Series 11 was stacked with Leicestershire-linked Big Brother stars, with Yvette - aka Dr Sunshine - being the third of the county's trio in 2010.

Originally from Peterborough, she qualified as a doctor from the University of Leicester but that didn't prevent her from an early exit, becoming the third person to be evicted that year - a week after Govan had left the house. Since Big Brother, Dr Sunshine has entered the world of journalism, writing for multiple publications including Junior Dr magazine, the Daily Mail and Fashion Insider.

Harry Amelia - Series 16

Harry Amelia was a model from Loughborough

It took another five years for Leicestershire to put itself on the Big Brother map and that came courtesy of model Harry. Loughborough-based, she was one of the last entrants into the 16th series of Big Brother, entering the house on day 18, but is the county's best performer, taking 8th place at the finish.

Shortly after competing in the show, Harry formed a relationship with fellow housemate Nick Henderson who finished 5th. The pair would go on to have a son called Hunter together, but had split before Harry had even given birth.

In 2017, she admitted in an interview with The Sun that she'd suffered postnatal depression following the birth of Hunter and had struggled with weight issues since. She even admitted to starving herself to get back her old figure.
