Two more people who tested positive for Covid-19 in Leicestershire have died.

Both people, who were in their 80s, had underlying conditions.

They died earlier this week.

The news was announced by Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, which provides community health, mental health and learning disabilities services for the one million people across the city and county.

A spokesperson for the trust said: "Sadly we can confirm that two patients who were being cared for by Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust and had tested positive for Covid-19, have died.

“Both patients were in their 80s, had underlying conditions and died on Monday, May 11.

“One was a male patient who died at the Evington Centre, Leicester; the other was a female patient, who died at Melton Mowbray Hospital.

“The families have been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time.”

The Evington Centre, which treats people with conditions including dementia, drug addiction and eating disorders, is on the Leicester General Hospital site but is managed separately by the partnership trust.

There have been around 34k Covid-19 related deaths reported in the UK so far. The latest figures are due to be published this afternoon.

As of yesterday, 1,915 people in Leicestershire had tested positive for coronavirus.

The total of people who had the illness and had died in the city's main hospitals stood at 305.

Deaths announced by the partnership trust are separate to those announced by the city's main hospitals.
