With teachers bemoaning the size of classes today, we wonder what they would make of this group?

By our reckoning, there are 49 pupils in this class and they are all boys.

This lovely photo was sent in by Peter Flint of Anstey.

It shows his class at South Charnwood Secondary Modern School, Markfield, in 1952.

Mr Flint is fourth from the left on the front row.

At the time he attended the school he lived in Glenfield and his best friend at school was Peter Moore.

One of his favourite lessons was metalwork, taught by Mr Walker, and he still has some things which were made in the sessions.

Mr Flint also recalls the headteacher was a Mr Owl.

Dancing lessons at South Charnwood High School, Markfield, in 1947-48

Although he can’t remember the name of the gardening teacher he does remember one of his favourite phrases was, “I’ll hit you with the wretched rake handle” if they were naughty during his lessons!

We also found in our archive this photo, above, taken at the school in 1947-48.

It shows girls in a dancing class.

The class was taking place in the school hall.

The school, which was founded in 1935,  is now called South Charnwood High School.
