More coronavirus deaths have been announced by local health trusts today.

University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL) said a further two patients it was caring for had died after testing positive for Covid-19.

Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust (LPT) has also recorded a fatality.

A spokesperson for UHL, which runs city's hospitals, said that both patients who died in its care were in their 80s.

They added: "Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of the patients at this very difficult and distressing time."

Some 320 patients being looked after at either the Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicester General Hospital or Glenfield Hospital have died after being found to have coronavirus.

LPT, which runs community hospitals and health services, said today that a man in his 70s had died at the Evington Centre, which provides accommodation for people who require nursing or personal care.

A spokesperson for LPT said: “Sadly we can confirm that a gentleman who was being cared for at the Evington Centre, Leicester, and had tested positive for Covid-19, has died.

“The patient, who died on Friday, 15 May, was in his 70s and had underlying health conditions.

“His family has been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time.”

Some 15 patients being cared for by LPT have died since the start of the pandemic.
