Part of Belgrave Road, in Leicester, was closed off this morning after a fire broke out in a sweet shop.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service was called out to the scene at around 11am, and part of the Golden Mile was shut as crews dealt with the incident, near Dorset Street.

A spokeswoman for the service said the cause of the fire was believed to be "a carelessly discarded incense stick", and that it was thought to be caused accidentally.

An assessment of the extent of the damage to the sweet shop is due to take place this afternoon.

Everyone was evacuated from the shop safely, and nobody is reported to have suffered any injuries.

Belgrave Road has now been opened.
