Coach passengers were treated at the roadside after their vehicle collided with a car on the A47.

Some of the 30 passengers on the coach had minor injuries after the incident happened at about 5.30pm yesterday on the A47 near Morcott in Rutland.

Police closed the road for three hours.

A Leicestershire Police spokeswoman said: “We were called at 5.40pm to a road traffic collision between a coach and a car on the A47 near Morcott.

“The road was closed and re-opened at 9.15pm.”

Fire crews from Uppingham and Oakham were called out at 6.01pm.

A Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: “We were called at 6.01pm by the East Midlands Ambulance Service.

 “Luckily no one seriously injured but around 30 passengers stranded by the roadside.

“Along with EMAS and a doctor we treated those in need of medical treatment.

“For the other passengers we tried to make them as comfortable as possible by giving them bottles of water and items to sit on until their new transport arrived.

“We hope that they all had a safe onward journey and eventually got to their destination.”

An EMAS spokeswoman said: “We sent three paramedics in ambulance cars and a doctor and treated patients on scene.”
