Police closed a main road in Leicester this afternoon after becoming concerned about the safety of a woman on top of a multi-storey car park.

Officers were called to the eight-level NCP car park above Bannantyne’s gym in Welford Road, shortly before 4pm.

Some nine police vehicles and paramedics attended the scene closing Welford Road and Mill Street as they attempted to make sure the woman was safe.

A Leicestershire Police spokesman said the woman was eventually brought down and taken to a place of safety,

It is understood she was not injured.

The roads reopened at around 5pm.
