The number of coronavirus cases in Leicestershire has risen to 1822, according to the latest figures from Public Health England released today (May 11).

Across the UK there are now 223,060 lab-confirmed Covid-19 patients and 32,065 people have passed away after testing positive.

This represents a rise of 3,877 and 210 respectively over the past 24-hours.

In Leicestershire, the total number of cases now stands at 1,822 - a rise of eight over the same time period.

Of those who have tested positive, 762 of them are within the Leicester City Council area and the other 1,060 are in the Leicestershire County Council area.

Yesterday (May 10), the total number of coronavirus cases in the county stood at 1,814.

The total of people who have died at the city’s hospitals after testing positive for Covid-19 now stands at 266.

Victims in Leicester have been aged between their 20s and 90s.

The UK is now in its eighth week of lockdown as, around the globe, people are being ordered to stay away from anyone not from their household in order to reduce the transmission of the virus, which causes flu symptoms.
