There are now more than 2,100 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Leicestershire, according to figures released by Public Health England today (May 25).

Across the UK, 36,914 people have now passed away after testing positive for Covid-19 and there are 261,184 lab-confirmed patients.

This represents a rise of 121 and 1,625 respectively over the past 24 hours.

In Leicestershire, there are now 2,129 cases - an increase of 33 over the same time period.

Of those, 864 have tested positive within the Leicester City Council area and the other 1,265 are in the Leicestershire County Council area.

According to the latest figures from Public Health England, released today, it represents a rise of nine and 24 respectively over 24 hours.

The death of another patient suffering from coronavirus at the city's hospitals has been announced this afternoon.

The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust regularly releases details about patients in the Leicester Royal Infirmary and the Glenfield and General hospitals who have passed away after testing positive for Covid-19.

It has not said at which hospital the death occurred or when, nor has it released the age or gender of the patient, it says as a mark of respect to the family of the deceased.

The latest death takes the total number of Leicester hospital patients to die with the virus to 324.
