New figures released today show that 1,814 people in Leicestershire have now tested positive for coronavirus, according to Public Health England - a rise of 33 since yesterday.

Throughout the UK, there are now 219,183 confirmed Covid-19 patients, a rise of 3,932 in 24 hours.

And the nationwide death toll now stands at 31,855, which represents an increase of 269 over the same period.

Of the 1,814 people in Leicestershire who have tested positive, 758 of them are within the Leicester City Council area and the other 1,056 are in the Leicestershire County Council area.

According to the latest figures from Public Health England, released today, it represents a rise of 13 and 20 respectively over 24 hours.

The total of people who had tested positive for Covid-19 and have died at the city’s hospitals stood at 272.

Victims in Leicester have been aged between their 20s and 90s.

The UK is about to enter its eighth week of lockdown as, around the globe, people are being ordered to stay away from anyone not from their household in order to reduce the transmission of the virus, which causes flu symptoms.
