A Leicestershire tip site has unexpectedly closed to the public today.

The busy Kibworth Recycling and Household Waste site has been closed by Leicestershire County Council due to electrical issues.

Residents and permit holders in the area will need to find a new tip site to dump their waste due to the unexpected closure ,a and the authority has apologised.

The Kibworth centre is usually open from Thursdays through to Monday 9am-7pm and is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

A spokesman for Leicestershire County Council said: "There’s no power and we need to carry out some electricity repairs.

"We think it will be closed Saturday, Sunday and possibly Monday.

"We’re sorry for any inconvenience and would encourage people to use alternative sites."

Alternative sites include Loughborough, Market Harborough, Oadby, Whetstone, and Melton Mowbray.

The Kibworth site closure comes as another in the county is soon to be out of action.

Shepshed's recycling and household waste site in Hathern Road is to close on Monday, September 2, and is not due to re-open until Monday, November 25.
