Fire chiefs have published dramatic photographs of a crash to try to persuade drivers to slow down when the roads are wet.

Firefighters have posted pictures from a two-car crash which happened in damp road conditions on the A4304 at Theddingworth today.

One person was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary after the collision on the Market Harborough side of the road just after 8am.

The road was blocked for a while in both directions as emergency services moved the vehicles.

Highways workers were also called out to remove oil from the surface of the road.

A fire service spokeswoman said: "We were called at 8.08am to a report of two-car collision on the A4304 at Theddingworth.

"We made both vehicles safe. East Midlands Ambulance Service were there."

A Leicestershire Police spokeswoman said they closed the road.

She said: "We were called at 8.02am to a report of road traffic collision. One person was taken to hospital."

Firefighters from Market Harborough posted the pictures on their Twitter account.

They said: “RTC make safe. Fortunately no one was trapped. Please take into consideration that the roads are wet so your stopping distances WILL increase! Reduce your speed. #driveToArrive , #FatalFour , #WorkingInPartnership .”

A spokeswoman for Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said the idea was to get the message across for motorists to drive to the road conditions.

She said: “At this time of year conditions on the roads can change very quickly if dry weather is followed by a spell of rain.

“These photographs are to illustrate just what can happen if drivers don’t slow down and drive to the conditions at that time.

“We want everyone to be safe on the roads by taking notice of the conditions and slowing down.”
