A 20-year-old driver is fighting for his lifel after a crash between a car and a van.

The crash, which involved a Mercedes car and a van, happened shortly after 8.30pm yesterday on the A511 at Sinope, between Ashby and Coalville.

The driver of the Mercedes was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre, in Nottingham, where he is in a life-threatening condition.

The 32-year-old van driver suffered serious injuries in the incident. He was also taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre, where he is in a serious but stable condition.

The road was closed while emergency services attended the scene and reopened shortly before 2am.

Leicestershire Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following the collision.

The white Vauxhall Vivaro van was travelling from Ashby towards Coalville and the white Mercedes CLA was travelling in the opposite direction when the collision happened.

Detective Sergeant Gary Haines, from Leicestershire Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU), has asked for anyone with information to get in touch.

“I’m particularly keen to speak to anyone who was travelling on the A511 – in either direction – around the time of the collision who has a dashcam installed in their vehicle,” he said.

“I’d also like to speak to anyone who saw the collision occur.

“Likewise, did you see either the white van or white Mercedes beforehand? If so, then please contact police. Any information you have could help with our investigation.”

Anyone with information can call the police on 101.
