A drunken sex offender slapped a woman on the backside then verbally abused another as she came out of a McDonald’s restaurant.

Leon Smith sexually assaulted the first woman outside a supported housing scheme in Loughborough then hours later followed another woman as she left the takeaway in the town’s Market Place.

As he followed the woman, he shouted and screamed at her. He used a four-letter expletive to describe people who go to McDonald’s.

Smith, of Peel Drive, Loughborough, pleaded guilty to sexual assault threatening behaviour on May 29,

He also admitted criminal damage.

Prosecutor Kwok Wan told Leicester Magistrates’ Court how the 30-year-old called at the Falcon Centre, a supported housing scheme, but became abusive and was asked to leave at about 2pm.

A member of staff was trying to persuade Smith to leave calmly when her friend walked over to try to assist her.

Mr Wan said: “Smith told the friend he would love to slap her on the backside. She told him that he was not allowed to do so. He leaned over and slapped her.”

After Smith left the scene the woman reported the assault to the police.

Four hours later, Smith was seen walking out of an alleyway next to the McDonald’s restaurant in Market Place.

Mr Wan said: “He was heavily intoxicated. He saw a woman come out of McDonald’s and started to follow her.

“He shouted at her: “I’m going to get you.” and “I’m going to get your mate”.

He continued to follow her shouting and screaming abuse at her.”

The police were called and arrested Smith.

“Both female victims, of the sexual assault and the public order offence, would have found the experiences very distressing,” said Mr Wan.

Inside the back of the police van, Smith urinated, spat out and emptied his nose.

When Smith was taken out of the van he told a female police officer: “I like boobs” and asked her to perform a sex act on him.

Mr Wan told the court that Smith has 27 convictions for 40 offences, including a sex assault.

Sajid Munir, defending, said his client had a problem with alcohol.

He said: “He has had a long history of alcohol misuse. He offends when he is intoxicated.

“If he is to stop offending he has to stop drinking alcohol.”

Yusuf Patel, the chairman of the bench, made Smith the subject of a three-year community order.

He said: “We are going to give you one more chance to sort your life out with the help of the Probation Service.”

He ordered him to attend a sex offenders programme for no more than 90 days and to attend 12 rehabilitation day sessions.

Mr Patel ordered Smith to pay £100 compensation to the woman he sexually assaulted. He was told to pay £60 to the woman he abused outside McDonald’s.

Smith was also ordered to pay £60 compensation to cover the cost of the police van being professionally cleaned.

Smith is required to sign on to the sex offenders register for the next five years.
