Police have issued a photograph of a burglar who was allowed to leave custody for two days to visit his seriously ill father before returning to be locked up.

Tyler Kidd was told by a judge he could see his dad on condition he returned to Leicester Crown Court on time to be sentenced for burgling a woman's Oadby home.

He had previously pleaded guilty to the burglary and was was being held on remand pending his sentencing hearing.

On his return to court, he was jailed for 29 months.

The 24-year-old, of no fixed address, and an accomplice who has not been traced, were caught on CCTV sizing up and breaking into the woman's home in Weston Close last month.

The woman had been burgled twice before and had installed an intruder alarm, which was triggered when the pair smashed their way into her home through the patio door.

Unable to switch off the alarm, they ran empty-handed from the scene.

Officers identified Kidd from CCTV footage from the area, and he was arrested within a few days.

The victim later told the police: "I'm left feeling deeply upset. It's left a lasting effect long after the house has been cleaned up."

Sergeant Simon Williams said after the case: “The investigating officer was quickly able to identify Kidd from the CCTV footage so within five days of the report he had been arrested.

"Nothing was stolen during the incident but damage was caused to the alarm panel box.

“The impact of burglary isn’t just financial. It can also have a significant impact on your emotional well-being and sense of security.

“We are pleased Kidd has pleaded guilty to his part in the incident and we hope the time he spends in prison gives him the opportunity to reflect on his behaviour and help him to mend his ways.”
