The heatwave has seen plenty of people heading out to enjoy our parks and green spaces today - but many have been shocked by the amount litter that's been left behind.

Across the city and county, reports of littering have been made - with food packaging to beer cans, balloons and gas canisters to tampons strewn across our beauty spots today.

Leicester City Police spoke out about the situation at Bede Park after patrols came across heaps of mess.

They said: "It is disappointing to see lots of rubbish left on the grass.

"There are at least 14 bins around the perimeter. Please clear up after yourselves so everyone can enjoy this open space safely."

One user replied to say the situation was the same in Rally Park in the city too.

In the Lutterworth Town Facebook community, reports of rubbish in a woods near the town was reported.

On a walk between Walcote and Misterton one person spotted "beer cans, plastic cups, a used tampon, balloons, nitrous oxide cannisters".

Another commenter added that a pornographic magazine had also been strewn around the area.

In the The Pastures Narborough Facebook group, rubbish was also flagged up.

A post read: "YET AGAIN. SCUM USE OUR BEAUTY SPOTS BUT CANNOT, I REPEAT CANNOT HAVE THE DECENCY TO CLEAN UP. Cans, bottles, food packaging, coffee cartons , canisters and balloons. Plus near the opening there's rocks and they've thrown the cannisters in the water. What a SHAME."

And on the Markfield Watch group, reports that a bench had been vandalised at Hill Hole nature reserve and beer cans left all over the floor nearby.

One person added: "What is wrong with people."

Blaby District Council added this morning that reports of fly-tipping in their borough have doubled in the past weeks.

They said: "Make sure the person taking your waste away is a registered waste carrier. You could be fined if flytipped waste is traced back to you."
