Hundreds of new build-to-rent homes could be built in a Leicestershire town.

Property group Core Living has revealed plans to construct up to 500 homes for market rent at four sites, including in Coalville.

The exact location of the homes was not included in the announcement.

However, a spokesperson confirmed to LeicestershireLive that the development will likely be a mix of two and three bedroom semi-detached and terraced houses.

The scheme would be one of the first of its kind in the county.

Build-to-rent (BTR) is one of the UK's fastest growing construction sectors, often targeting young professionals in city centres.

But developers are now looking to the model to provide long-term housing for families.

Core Living says the scheme will 'address the urgent need to increase the build-out of new homes in the regions'.

The brand, which was launched by development and investment company Godwin Group earlier this year, aims to build up to 2,500 homes to 'help address the national housing shortage'.

Through a partnership with property firm Harworth Group, it is looking to deliver homes in Coalville, Rotherham, Doncaster, and Wakefield.

All four developments have outline planning permission in place and Harworth is already preparing land for development, including on-site infrastructure containing roads and utilities.

Completion of the 500 homes is forecast by the end of 2022, with the first tenants scheduled to be in their new homes by the second quarter of 2021.

Do you think building buy-to-rent housing for families is a good idea?

Stuart Pratt, group development director at Godwin Group, said: "The delivery of up to 500 new quality homes for rent will offer further choice to people in Yorkshire and Leicestershire whilst also addressing the urgent need to increase the build-out of new homes in the regions.

"We are very much looking forward to seeing the Core Living brand develop and our partnership with Harworth Group strengthen and are delighted to progress into the Build to Rent housing market.

"Supply of purpose-built housing for rent is still only a small proportion of the market and offers the next growth area for the private rental sector and the BTR sector."

Design practice rg+p is the lead architect on the four initial sites.

Architectural director, James Badley, said: "BTR is a rapidly expanding market and we’re successfully delivering this type of accommodation in cities across the UK.

"For each of the Core Living/Harworth Group sites, our designs include a specialist range of homes to engender a sense of community and encourage longevity of tenure.

"These developments have been carefully considered to blend harmoniously with their surroundings yet offer vibrant, flexible and high-quality spaces which suit modern living."
