An investigation is continuing after a man died after falling from the roof of a building in Leicester.

Police officers and officials from the Health and Safety Executive are working together to investigate the incident which happened just after 2pm on Wednesday  at Floors Today in St Matthews.

The man, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at the scene after he fell at the premises in Brougham Street.

The police, doctors from the East Midlands Immediate Care Scheme (EMICS),  an East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) ambulance crew and a paramedic and the air ambulance were called to the scene.

An EMAS spokeswoman said: "We received a call at 2.08pm on March 20 to Floors Today in Leicester to assist with a medical emergency.

"We sent two doctors, a paramedic in an ambulance car, a crewed ambulance and the air ambulance."

A tweet on the official EMICS twitter site said: "Two EMICS volunteer doctors Dave Ridley and Guy Rutty responded rapidly to the incident alongside EMAS and all other emergency services - thoughts with the patients family."

 A Leicestershire Police spokesman said: “At about 2.15pm on Wednesday we received a call that a man had fallen from the roof of a building in Brougham Street, Leicester.

“Both police and the East Midlands Ambulance Service attended. However, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing and police are liaising with the Health and Safety Executive.”

A HSE spokesman said: “We are not releasing a statement. The police are leading on this matter.”
