Police chased and arrested three men after they ran away when a large cannabis factory was found in a city centre property today.

Officers detained the trio a short distance after they fled from an address in Southgates, Leicester.

All three were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the production of cannabis.

Another man was arrested in Leicester on the suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class B drugs.

A woman was also arrested in the city on suspicion of conspiracy to produce class B drugs.

A Leicestershire Police spokeswoman said: “Officers have arrested five people after a warrant was executed under the Misuse of Drugs Act earlier today.

"Officers attended a property on Southgates in the city centre where three men ran from the property.

"They were detained in the city centre a short while later. They were all arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the production of class B drugs.

" A large number of cannabis plants have been found at the property - searches are continuing at the address.

"In connection with the operation a man was arrested at an address in Leicester on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class B drugs.

"A woman was also arrested, in Leicester, on suspicion of conspiracy to produce class B drugs."
